Unique comes to Kurt for advice about wanting to get a sex change.

“What do you want me to say?” Kurt asked, sipping his coffee slowly.

He’d only been back in Lima for a week or so now, and Unique had gone to Mr. Schue, asking for his cell phone number. She needed advice, and Kurt was here for her, at the Lima Bean, to give her advice.

“Do you think it’s a good idea?” Unique asked, licking her glossed lips.

She adjusted her wig and looked around warily. No one was staring at her, but it felt like everyone in the small cafe was judging her.

“If it’s what you want,” Kurt nodded, smiling reassuringly. “It is what you want, right? Like, you don’t think you have to, right? Because you don’t. You don’t need to have a…you know…and boobs, to be a real woman.”

Unique rolled her eyes.

“I know,” she said. “I want it. I do. So badly.”

“Then, go for it,” Kurt stated, smiling at her.

“But it’s a matter of money,” Unique sighed. “I’d have to start saving now, and it could still be years before I can even get the surgery. And…I don’t know if my parents will agree to it.”

Kurt swallowed, frowning sympathetically at the girl across the table from him. He reached over and placed his hand over hers, squeezing it gently.

“Be you,” he stated, staring into her eyes. “Be who you want to be. Your parents can’t dictate your life forever. Just be happy, and it’ll all fall into place. I’m not saying that you should stop trying with them, but…if they can’t accept you…it’s best to just do your own thing.”

Unique nodded, squeezing Kurt’s hand. She smiled tentatively.

“Thanks, Kurt,” she murmured. “You’re so sweet.”

Kurt grinned at her, shooting her a wink, before he squeezed her hand and released it, picking up a biscotti.

“Let’s talk about boys,” Unique offered, eyes searching the cafe. “Like, who is that hottie in line? He’s one…two…fourth.”

Kurt looked up, and his eyes stopped on the fourth person. He smiled sadly at the boy who stood there. As if he felt someone watching him, the boy turned, looking Kurt’s way.

Blaine raised a hand and waved to Kurt, smiling in painful-looking way.

Then, Kurt turned back to Unique, changing the subject.

“Are you going to legally change your name to Unique?” Kurt asked.

“When I get my SRS or before?” Unique cocked her head to the side, playing along.

She wouldn’t make Kurt talk if he didn’t want to.

Unique spared a glance at the line, where the boy she’d been checking out earlier was. He kept sparing glances at their table, looking like he was about to be sick.

Must be an ex, Unique thought to herself, as she looked at Kurt, who tried to hide his sadness, but Unique knew that look all to well. She could tell that he was trying to hide his pain.

She felt bad for them. They were obviously still in love.
