“Nurse! Nurse!” Blaine Anderson called, running into the Pokémon Center.

He stopped at the front desk, out of breath and sweating profusely.

“What’s the matter?” the nurse asked, voice completely nonchalant.

Blaine took a deep breath, removing a Poké Ball from his bag and handing it over. “My Raichu is sick. I had to put him into his Poké Ball earlier, which never happens, and now he won’t come out.”

“I’ll take him upstairs to see a doctor,” the woman smiled reassuringly at him. “You can go sit in the waiting area, and I’ll be down to tell you what happened.”

“Okay,” Blaine nodded, biting his lip as he slowly walked over to a chair in the waiting area and plopped down, feeling sick to his stomach.

He stared at his dirty hands, just think over the past few days. He’d been on his way to Saffron City with his Raichu. They’d cut through a forest to get to the city, here, and then his Pokémon suddenly started coughling and sweating. Blaine had put him into his Poké Ball, promising that he would get him to a Center as soon as he found one.

“Hey,” a soft voice sounded from a few feet away from Blaine. “Are you all right?”

He looked up to see a very attractive boy, staring at him, a look of worry crossing his face. The boy was tall and slender with styled hair and tight clothes. Blaine would have ogled him further, had he not thought of his Raichu, just upstairs, fighting for his life, and his face crumbled.

Blaine’s face dropped into his hands as he started to cry. It was only a moment before he felt himself being tugged out of his chair and into a warm embrace. He held on for dear life to the body, just sobbing into the boy’s shoulder.

A few minutes later, once Blaine’s eyes were dry and they were both seated on a couch, the two boys got to talking.

“Are you a trainer?” Blaine asked, eying the boy up and down.

“Nah,” the other shook his head, his face scrunching up in disgust at the thought. “I design clothing for trainers and Poké Center employees. I’m just in town for the day. I’ll be leaving in the morning to move to my next city.”

Blaine nodded in understanding, “What’s your name?”

“Kurt,” the boy said, grinning at him, and extended a hand. “Yours?”

“I’m Blaine,” he replied, taking the other boy’s hand and shaking it.

Their eyes met for a brief moment, but it felt like forever. It was like they were staring into each other’s souls for a minute, but then a nurse came over to them, looking for Blaine.

“Your Raichu is going to be all right,” she assured him. “He just has a little cold.”

Blaine let out a relieved sigh and then leaned back into the couch. “How long will it be before I can leave with him?”

“You can take him home tomorrow,” the nurse said, smiling at him kindly, and then she walked over to go back to her station.

“That’s great,” Kurt cheered, and, then, as an after thought, he asked, “Do you need some place to stay tonight?”

Blaine eyed him curiously for a moment before nodding, “Only if you’re offering.”

Kurt chuckled, standing up, and he extended a hand to the other boy. “Come on. I know a short cut.”

The next morning, Blaine returned to the Poké Center, with Kurt close behind him. He walked up to the front desk, collecting his Raichu’s ball from the nurse from yesterday and thanked her profusely.

Together, the boys walked out into the woods and Blaine let his Raichu out of its Pokémon Ball. They had a cheerful reunion, and then Blaine made sure he had everything in his pack.

“I guess…I’d better go,” Blaine said, shifting from foot to foot as he looked at the grass beneath him.

“Where are you going?” Kurt asked curiously, looking down at the Raichu, who was watching the two boys’ interaction.

“Saffron City,” he replied, looking up at Kurt, who looked up at him too, a small smile on his face.

“Well,” Kurt began, “I haven’t been that way yet. Would you…um…would you maybe want some company on the trip? Someone who can speak English, maybe?”

Blaine snorted, thinking for a moment, before he nodded, eying the boy up and down. “I…I would love that.”

Their eyes met for a moment, before they were interrupted by Blaine’s Raichu pulling on his jean leg. Blaine chuckled, looking down at the Pokémon.

“This is Kurt,” he said, gesturing to the other boy.

Kurt crouched down, smiling at the Pokémon, “Hi!”

Raichu looked at Kurt skeptically for a moment before stepping forward. He touched Kurt’s nose, and the boy grinned at him. The Pokémon shrugged before walking away.

Blaine laughed at Kurt’s reaction. “He’ll warm up to you.”

“Promise?” Kurt raised an eyebrow at him, standing up.

“Promise,” Blaine nodded, before following after his Raichu, Kurt right behind him.
